Did you know that the week of April 15 20 is Earth Week and Earth Day is April 22? Every year, we celebrate Earth week by with action This year at HCES,our grade 3-5 students had the wonderful opportunity to experience the Education Unit from the County of Simcoe. This means you can refuse to buy plastic and choose more earth-friendly options.

Did you know, that next week, all types of plastics (except plastic bags) will be accepted into the blue bin from 1 7? Families will receive their new enlarged bin and you can now recycle clamshell packaging and yogurt and pudding cups! It was a fun day,and each student also received a reusable shopping bag, a pencil made from recycled denim, and a t-shirt! Make every day Earth Day HCES!

The Leadership Team at Huronia Centennial is very excited about their upcoming fundraiser. We are now taking orders for the limited edition Rafiki Friend of East Africa Chain. Each chain is handmade by women in Kenya. The money raised will be donated back to both the people of Kenya, and our clean water project. Each bracelet is being sold for $15.00.

There are two styles available. One is pink, black and white. The other is a mixture of different greens and blues. Each chain can be transformed into a necklace, bracelet, or anklet. With Mothers Day coming up, it is a great opportunity to get some early

OnThursday March 28 many different classes came to the gym to meet Darren to teach us Rocks and Rings (which is Curling in the Gym!!). First we did a relay race to get us warmed up. Then we split into 2 groups. Since we don have any ice in our gym the rocksare on tiny wheels to roll!!! Thanks for coming Darren and teaching us Curling!!

The Titanic Art Project is on display at the Elmvale Post Office to coincide with the launch of the commemorative stamps and coins on the anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. The students from Mrs. Peach’s and Mr. Bignell’s classes have been busy creating drawings, sculptures and journals for the display. The drawings represent reproduction promotional posters. The journals respond to the prompt: “When the ship hit the iceberg, I…”. And the sculptures represent the debris field at the bottom of the ocean. Feel free to drop into the post office to see the fantastic display.

During the month of March all students of Huronia Centennial were encouraged to enter our yearbook cover contest. As of April 2nd we had77 entries and an extremely difficult decision to make. A group of teachers met after school on April 3rd to review all of the submissions and after careful consideration made the decisions. They also do performances on the stage at spirit Assemblies. They do lots of practising on Mondays at recess and Thursday nightsfrom 3:30 until 5:00pm. Bignell, Mrs.
